Yomiuri: SCMAGLEV Test Runs Restarting in September

Line extended to over 42 kilometers

On April 17th, JR Central announced that once the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line (Yamanashi Prefecture: Uenohara City - Fuefuki City) currently undergoing extension is completed, test runs using the new SCMAGLEV model L0 (L-zero) will begin starting in September.

The Test Line, which will be part of the Chuo Shinkansen planned to open in 2027, was extended to the east and west from its original 18.4-kilometer priority section. New vehicle testing will first start using a 5-car configuration, and is planned to expand to a 12-car configuration expected to be used in revenue service. Running at its highest operating speed of 500 km/h, vehicle durability, etc will be verified during testing, which will continue until the end of 2016.

At a press conference the same day, President Yoshiomi Yamada stated "As extension works have been going well, we were able to accelerate our plans to be complete by the end of the year. We will be sure to bring out the maximum performance of the L0."
