Dearest northeast corridor,

On this Valentine’s Day, we’d like to share our love for the people and places that make you such a special place! Excuse us while we get a little sappy thinking about all the amazing things there are to see and do in our region. We live, work, and travel here, and want to make it easy for everyone to visit these amazing cities. At Northeast Maglev, our mission is to bring the speedy Superconducting Maglev to the U.S., starting in one of the cities we call home, Washington, D.C.

Washington, DC

Washington D.C., you’re truly a magical place. When you look past the politics, it’s easy for your beauty to shine. D.C., your amazing architecture, diverse culture, historical and global influence make you a one-of-a-kind place. The Smithsonian offers free world-class art, science, and history museums. As our nation’s capital, all year long, you’re a gracious host to lively and amazing events. In the spring, when the cherry blossoms bloom, the Tidal Basin turns into a fragrant, pink wonderland. During the holidays, the National Mall becomes a festive celebration space with all the holiday trimmings. One of the best kept secrets is how the city transforms at night as the monuments begin to glow in the moonlight and their lights shimmer and reflect in the picturesque reflecting pool. It is truly a stunning sight to behold.

Baltimore

Baltimore, we’re glad your charms are just a 15-minute SCMAGLEV ride away from D.C. We have a special spot in our hearts for you – you’re home to our headquarters! We love your tribute to the Chesapeake Bay and maritime history on display with historic ships docked in the scenic Inner Harbor. Strolling through your delightful historic streets in Fells Point on our journey to a delicious Chesapeake Bay-inspired feast is the perfect set up for a romantic outing! We love visiting the National Aquarium, learning about our planet’s incredible biodiversity. We also love touring your incredible historic spots, like the Evergreen Museum & Library or the Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum. You even have your own Washington Monument! Once we’ve had our fill of history, we could hop on a water taxi and make our way to Fort McHenry. Standing at the fort’s point and watching the sun set over the harbor, it’s easy to understand how this became the inspiration for the words to our National Anthem. And, of course, we would be remiss if we failed to mention Baltimore as the birthplace of passenger rail in the United States. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum provides a living history of rail’s heyday. What better place to introduce the world’s most advanced rail transportation system to the U.S.?

Wilmington

Wilmington, you’re a true hidden gem of the Northeast Corridor and we’re thrilled that an SCMAGLEV stop will make us more connected to you than ever! Rich in historical sites and sitting along the beautiful Christina River, we can’t wait to get some of the best views of the city from your romantic River Walk. We love celebrating spring with a new bouquet of flowers from the Wilmington Flower Market! Once we’ve found the perfect blooms, we’ll relax with a pint at one of your many famous breweries and restaurants. Our love of the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival’s sultry sounds will bring us back in August, and we can’t wait!

Philadelphia

Oh, Philadelphia! You’re known as the city of brotherly love, and you truly live up to the nickname! Walking in the steps of our nation’s earliest days, it’s easy to fall in love all over again. The monuments to our country’s fight for independence – like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House – are testaments to the love our forefathers had for the nascent nation. You don’t just help us feed our love of history – you also help us indulge our admiration for art and culture. There are so many museums and exhibits to choose from, but we’re taking extra time at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Rodin Museum, where we’ll get a unique perspective of the renowned sculptor’s love for his craft. We also love all things spooky; taking a turn on one of your many ghost tours will give us another reason to stick close to our loved one! Of course, we can’t leave Philly without getting a cheesesteak from world-famous Pat’s King of Steaks or Geno’s Steaks! With our bellies full for the next leg of our trip… on to Newark, New Jersey!

Newark

Newark, we’re in love with your diversity and vibrant festivities of the many immigrant communities that make you so special! The Brazilian Day Newark Festival, Puerto Rican Day Parade and AfroBeat Festival, give us so much to be thankful for and celebrate! As music lovers, we’ll also make sure to stop at the GRAMMY Experience Museum Prudential Center, singing and dancing as we recognize with some of the most accomplished musicians of the century.

New York City

Next, we’re off to the city that never sleeps – NYC. There’s so much to love, we could never sum it up in just a paragraph. Between your world-famous museums, amazing food scene, the fantastic Broadway shows and the many tourist sites, we know we’ll never be bored! Whether we’re ringing in the new year in Times Square, spending a lazy afternoon in Central Park, watching magic unfold on Broadway or cheering performers at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, there’s something for everyone! We love New York and cannot wait to be able to get there in a hop skip and a jump!

Points North

And, of course, as we gaze longingly into the future, we can dream about New Haven, Providence, and Boston!

We’re looking forward to connecting all of these great cities like never before. The superconducting maglev will not only shrink the distance between them, but it will connect their vast histories and cultures, making them more accessible to all, and unlock the true economic potential of the Northeast Corridor!

Now more than ever, Northeast Maglev believes that by working together we can do big things. Keep track of what we’re up to by following us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
